This cycle was commissioned by the Amsterdam Fund for Art Foundation (Stichting Amsterdam Fonds door de Kunst) on the occasion of the exhibit "The Art of Devotion" at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (winter 1994-'95), with special attention to catalog number 44, a diptych: a Transfiguration of Maria (e.g. "Maria in Sole") from the Boijmans Van Beuningen collection, and a Christ on the Cross with Scenes from the Passion, artist unknown, originating from the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh, collection. The diptych is a rosery devotion piece and attributed to Geertgen tot Sint Jans
